It was my Sons third birthday recently which was adorable! I didn't throw him a party last year so this was his first big celebration with friends and a beautiful symbol of him growing up.
As a Vegan i don't ever feel like i miss out on anything, i avoid refined sugars and luckily my little man doesn't have a sweet tooth but it still left me a little worried about what food i was going to make and are the other kids going to enjoy it? -_-
Lets just say everything i prepared was a complete hit with nothing left on the table. The kids were well fed and the parents were actually really grateful for my healthy sugar free spread! Sugar makes kids crazy… for real lol! so i had no confectionary and instead of lolly bags i made party bags with a little wooden alphabet stamp set inside.
It was a hot day so i had a lot of fresh fruits used in fun ways. Here is a list of what i came up with:
These are so fun and can really be decorated any way you choose. I used a pen to draw the faces and party streamers to tie around the neck. You could do cowboys or pirates or princesses and is a great idea even for school lunch boxes.
I originally planned Hummus stars but it was going to waste too much food as you would have to make 1 whole sandwich just to cut out a star so we ended up with soldiers which is easy for kids to eat and less waste.
Star skewers + Fruity skewers:
Kids love fruit, and even more so when its on a skewer or in fun shapes. Keep in mind most toddlers like colours separated so i aimed at having particular colours together, e.g.. mango skewers had all mango with a blueberry on top. Red skewers were raspberry and strawberry and the star skewers had blueberry and strawberry together. Just remember to cut the sharp ends off to avoid any accidents with the children.
For the Star skewers i used watermelon and then used the leftovers to make watermelon juice :) to make the stars you will need bamboo skewers and some star cutters like these :
I tried my best to be plastic free by using glass cups, palm leaf plates with bamboo cutlery and brown recycled napkins. the palm leaf plates were gorgeous and can actually be re-used so well worth the money.
The cute Glass cups were only 0.75c from Kmart!
Fresh watermelon juice:
I used the left over watermelon from making stars in my juicer. I use the juice fountain by breville which has been one of my favourite purchases this year!
Overall it was a beautiful day with stunning weather and happy people coming together to celebrate Life. To me Birthdays are a celebration of being alive, its not about the presents, its about gratitude. We are so blessed to be here, the chances of being where you are right now are one in a million so i hope on your next birthday you feel thankful and happy to be alive.
As always sending you love and light
